Hi there, first of all: RAM slots are usually numbered 1 2 3 4 1 and 2 are for Channel 0 while 3 and 4 are for channel 1 I would suggest putting the 1 GB stick in slot 1 and the two 512 meg sticks in slots 3 and 4. Doing that may allow the motherboard to enable dual channel mode.
